The FMH Signal: Chip's rebrand and the AI behind its creative
Chip's new brand is premium. Its creative director may not be human
Chip, the UK wealth app, has repositioned from savings app to wealth brand with a new website leading on "Wealth building, made for you." On the same day, co-founder and CMO Alex Latham described a marketing operation in which overnight AI agents produce creative from Chip's brand guidelines, pass it to a "Creative Director Skill" for review, and deliver finished work by morning. FMH's analysis asks where human accountability sits in that loop.
Chip's visual shift is the obvious story: deep green, editorial typography, lifestyle imagery, and a proposition that sits much closer to wealth management than to the autosaving app the company launched as in 2017.
The less obvious story is how the creative is now made.
What did Chip's CMO actually say about AI?
Latham described AI as "fully baked into all of our processes" not a co-pilot, but an extension of the team. His example: overnight agents working from Chip's content libraries and brand guidelines, with autonomous access to Adobe Creative Suite, looping through a "Creative Director Skill" before the team sees the output.
In agent-building terms, a "skill" is a packaged set of instructions an AI loads to perform a task. Read literally, the reviewer in that loop may not be a person.
Why does Chip rebrand & AI creative approach matter for regulated marketing teams?
In February, Chip went live with an AI compliance platform for FCA-regulated financial promotions, moving from manual approvals that could take weeks to real-time ones. Put the public statements side by side, and you get a marketing stack where AI creates, AI reviews, and AI accelerates compliance. The question for any regulated marketer is simple: at what point, and by whom, is a human accountable for what ships?

FAQs
Has Chip rebranded?
Chip's website now leads with "Wealth building, made for you" and a wealth-management visual identity. FMH has not found a formal launch announcement from Chip, so we describe it as a live brand direction rather than a dated launch.
Does Chip use AI to make its marketing creative?
Yes. Its co-founder and CMO has publicly described overnight AI agents that generate creative from Chip's content libraries and brand guidelines, with a review step before the team receives the work.
Is AI-generated marketing allowed under FCA rules?
The FCA does not prohibit AI-produced creative. Financial promotions must still be fair, clear and not misleading, and firms remain accountable under the Consumer Duty regardless of how the creative was produced.
